Training with the Rossendale & Pendle Mountain Rescue team

Having completed a first aid training course for the BHS with R&PMR we offered to provide a “casualty” who they had to locate and treat.  Dave was nominated and did an excellent job.  Some points that made me more aware were

  1. It can take up to two hours for the team to assemble, leave base and get to the casualty side. That length of time in cold weather can easily lead to hypothermia.
  2. Can you give an accurate location if you need help? A mapping app on a smart phone will give a grid reference of your position otherwise you need to have a map with you that you know how to use.
  3. Learn first aid basics – you never know when you might need them.

Dave was returned safe and well if rather cold and we attended the debriefing meeting to swap ideas.
